Descrición:: [EN] The situation of the Jews of Castile during the reign of Alfonso X was far more favorable than that of their European coreligionists, who since the early Middle Ages had suffered attacks, mass murders, confiscation of property, partial and/or permanent expulsions, and had been forced to wear identifying marks. These favorable living conditions fit into the policy maintained by the Castilian monarchy: to permit the Jewish presence, but to impose measures that would make their daily lives difficult, with the aim of achieving their swiftest conversion and preventing interaction with Christians. Measures that Alfonso X himself did not question, as long as the Jews behaved appropriately. [ES] La situación de los judíos castellanos durante el reinado de Alfonso X fue mucho más benévola que la de sus correligionarios europeos quienes desde los primeros siglos medievales habían sufrido asaltos, asesinatos masivos, confiscación de bienes, expulsiones parciales y/o definitivas y habían sido obligados a portar señales identificativas.   8. < dc:description > [EN] The situation of the Jews of Castile during the reign of Alfonso X was far more favorable than that of their European coreligionists, who since the early Middle Ages had suffered attacks, mass murders, confiscation of property, partial and/or permanent expulsions, and had been forced to wear identifying marks. These favorable living conditions fit into the policy maintained by the Castilian monarchy: to permit the Jewish presence, but to impose measures that would make their daily lives difficult, with the aim of achieving their swiftest conversion and preventing interaction with Christians. Measures that Alfonso X himself did not question, as long as the Jews behaved appropriately. [ES] La situación de los judíos castellanos durante el reinado de Alfonso X fue mucho más benévola que la de sus correligionarios europeos quienes desde los primeros siglos medievales habían sufrido asaltos, asesinatos masivos, confiscación de bienes, expulsiones parciales y/o definitivas y habían sido obligados a portar señales identificativas. Estas favorables condiciones de vida se insertan en la línea argumental mantenida por la monarquía castellana: permitir la presencia judía, pero imponiéndoles medidas que dificultasen su vida cotidiana, con el objetivo de lograr su más rápida conversión, e impedir el trato con los cristianos. Medidas que el propio Alfonso X no cuestionó, siempre y cuando los judíos mantuvieran un comportamiento adecuado. </ dc:description >
