Descrição:: [Resumen] En el año 1963, el arquitecto británico F. Pym resultó vencedor en el con-curso para completar la Galería de Arte de Belfast, un monumental edificio neoclásico proyectado por J. C. Wynne como consecuencia de un concur-so anterior convocado en 1914. El orden clásico que poseía el edificio inicial fue reinterpretado radicalmente en la propuesta de Pym, ideada por un pequeño equipo de su estudio que incluía al arquitecto en prácticas Paddy Lawson, quien adquirió posteriormente el rol de arquitecto local y se ocupó de materializar las ideas del concurso, especialmente después de la renun-cia de Pym a seguir liderando el proyecto en 1968. Con la denominación de Ulster Museum desde los años sesenta, la arquitectura concebida por Pym y Lawson se convirtió en una de las obras emblemáticas de la modernidad, en una triple lectura: como revisión de la idea de monumentalidad, gene-rando un nuevo orden estratigráfico y dinámico que convive en continuidad con la solidez académica del orden precedente; como asimilación local de la expresión brutalista presente a escala internacional en aquel momento y como la integración de una fábrica histórica dentro de un proyecto mo-derno, reconociendo y respetando su valor patrimonial y actuando con las herramientas del presente.; [Abstract] In 1963, the British architect F. Pym won the competition to complete the Belfast Art Gallery, a monumental and neoclassical building designed by J. C. Winne as a result of a previous competition called in 1914. The classical order of the previous building it is radically revised in the proposal of Pym, designed by a small team from his studio that included the architectural assistant Pat Lawson, who later acquires the role of architect on site, over-seeing all aspects and materializing the ideas of the competition, especially after the resignation from Pym to continue leading the project in 1968. With the name of Ulster Museum from the sixties, the architecture conceived by Pym and Lawson will become one of the emblematic works of modernity, in a triple reading: as a revision of the idea of monumentality, generating a new stratigraphic and dynamic order that coexists in continuity with the aca-demic solidity of the preceding one, as a local assimilation of the brutalist expression present at international level at that time, and as the integration of a historical building into a modern project, recognizing and respecting its heritage value and acting with the tools of the present.

Pym resultó vencedor en el con-curso para completar la Galería de Arte de Belfast, un monumental edificio neoclásico proyectado por J. C. Wynne como consecuencia de un concur-so anterior convocado en 1914. El orden clásico que poseía el edificio inicial fue reinterpretado radicalmente en la propuesta de Pym, ideada por un pequeño equipo de su estudio que incluía al arquitecto en prácticas Paddy Lawson, quien adquirió posteriormente el rol de arquitecto local y se ocupó de materializar las ideas del concurso, especialmente después de la renun-cia de Pym a seguir liderando el proyecto en 1968. Con la denominación de Ulster Museum desde los años sesenta, la arquitectura concebida por Pym y Lawson se convirtió en una de las obras emblemáticas de la modernidad, en una triple lectura: como revisión de la idea de monumentalidad, gene-rando un nuevo orden estratigráfico y dinámico que convive en continuidad con la solidez académica del orden precedente; como asimilación local de la expresión brutalista presente a escala internacional en aquel momento y como la integración de una fábrica histórica dentro de un proyecto mo-derno, reconociendo y respetando su valor patrimonial y actuando con las herramientas del presente. </ subfield >
